About Us

A Brief History of Myanmar Christian Fellowship, London

In March 2001, three Christian men from Burma, Ko Liantawng ( Nang Mun Lian ), Ko Shwe ( Aung Aung Shwe ) and Ko Kaipi ( Thawng Khua Kai ) all who had studied in London were sitting together in Southall, London. They discussed having a regular worship service in Myanmar dialects. In order to have their vision come alive they started a cell group prayer meeting and asked God to help them to find a suitable place to worship Him.

By the grace of God, they met a minister called Rev. William Fransch ( former Pastor of Brockley Baptist, London ). When they shared their vision with him, Pastor William not only encouraged them to keep on praying to God, but also introduced them to one of his friends, called Rev. Ron Smith ( former Pastor of South Hanwell Baptist Church ).

After a meeting and discussion with Rev. Ron Smith, he offered a tiny room for them to worship God in South Hanwell Baptist Church, London. On the 25th Sept 2001, the Myanmar Christian Fellowship of London was established.

About two years later in 1 June 2003, with the help of Rev. Peter Thompson ( formerly Anglican Missionary to Burma, 1954 – 1966 ), we moved to St.John’s Church where we were able to meet every Sunday afternoon.

In spite of some difficulties for International Students both financially and with the limitation of their visas, God answered our prayers. Our membership increased slowly in number every year. Currently, we have around 40 members and have a regular worship service in Myanmar Dialects every Sunday afternoon. Our members came from different ethnic groups, backgrounds and denominations. Therefore we named our church, “ Myanmar Christian Fellowship “. Our motto is: “ I am the Way, the truth and the life “ Jn 14:6. Our members come from different ethnic groups within Myanmar namely, Chin, Chinese, Indian, Kachin, Karen, Lahu, Myanmar and Shan.

On 1 Nov 2003, our application for membership of LBA ( London Baptist Association ) was approved and Myanmar Christian Fellowship was accepted as one of the member of 250 churches. During the Baptist Union of Great Britain’s Annual meeting, between 30 April – 3 May 2004 at Cardiff International Arena, Cardiff City of Wales, Myanmar Christian Fellowship was accepted as a member and granted a Certificate of membership of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
